#SomethingNew April: Magnolia Market in Waco

2016-04-02 11.42.53

I’ve been attempting to write this post for weeks nows, but friends, April has been chaotic. I will hopefully get to explain more about my crazy schedule and what the LORD has been teaching me this month in another post, but for now let’s just focus on my #SomethingNew!

This month (a couple weeks ago), I went to Chip and Joanna Gaines’ store in Waco, TX with a group of girlfriends for a day trip that turned into a little weekend getaway. Since Waco is only about an hour and a half outside of Dallas, it makes for an easy day trip. We left Dallas early Saturday morning in hopes that we wouldn’t be waiting in line forever, and we certainly lucked out because there was NO WAIT when we got there. It was definitely good timing considering most of the reviews I read said people were waiting close to an hour. We were off to a great start!

Once we got inside Magnolia Market, I was in interior design heaven. The place was filled with so many beautiful home goods that I nearly wanted everything in the store. It took a lot to stop myself from going overboard and sticking to my pre-determined budget.

There were so many gorgeous items in the store. They had the best fake flowers and plants I had ever seen. They felt and looked so real that it took you a second to realize they weren’t. Then they had a slew of décor, kitchen items, serving items, pillows and throws. I would call the décor a mix between Pottery Barn and Anthropologie with surprisingly reasonable prices (because you know how those places can get). I could have stayed in there for hours looking at everything and getting ideas for future rooms.

In the end, I purchased the Magnolia wreath which I had been eyeing for some time, a handful of fake tulips and a mini chalkboard. There were so many other things I wanted, but I felt like these items were the most versatile if I end up moving again in the next year or two. I will definitely want to make another trip when I get a house!

Outside of the store, there is a grassy area for kids (and dads) to play while the ladies shop. There are food trucks and picnic tables too, so you could really make a whole day of it! Currently, Chip and Joanna are working on opening an on-site bakery and plant shop (I think this is now open, but it wasn’t when we were there). There are lots of things to do and see at the market.

After we left Magnolia, we ate lunch at Olive Branch (a local sandwich place) and walked around Spice Village. The best way I can describe Spice Village is a huge space filled with little Etsy shops, kind of like the Dallas Flea if you’ve been to that. It was a really cool place, and I also found a little something there.

After a day’s worth of shopping, we drove to my friend’s ranch, about an hour away from Waco. To summarize our night there, we got a truck stuck in the mud (and attempted to get it out for an hour), rode four wheelers, drank too much wine, laughed until we cried and ate lots of food and birthday cake. It was super fun and one of those weekends I will never forget!

Needless to say, it was definitely a great trip to the Silos, and I will definitely be going back!

My Style: Flannel Three Ways

Against all odds, I have gotten really into flannel this season. I’ve never thought of myself as a “flannel girl” until this year when I started looking at the material differently. I noticed several of my favorite bloggers pairing their flannel pieces with unexpected things, so I started thinking outside of the box and doing the same.

It’s comfortable. It’s warm. And it’s versatile. What more could I ask for? Now I am very on board with this winter go-to!

To prove just how versatile it can be, I pulled together three different flannel looks just in time for all those Thanksgiving get-togethers. Which one is your favorite?

Cool & CasualIMG_5138.JPGThis outfit is a little more edgy than I typically go for, but I love the “cool girl” feeling that I have when I wear these boots with ripped jeans. It’s the perfect outfit for a casual Thanksgiving with your artsy cousins.

Shirt: Old Navy
Jeans: Banana Republic
Boots: Fry (old)

Mix & MatchIMG_5139.JPGI love the look of mixing different plaids! I try to find patterns with similar colors and make sure the patterns aren’t too busy together (I typically look for one “big” pattern and one “small” pattern). I’m also obsessed with this suede skirt! It’s perfect for any holiday occasion.

Shirt: Old Navy
Scarf: Old Navy
Skirt: Express
Booties: Nordstrom Rack (Cole Hann)

Dress & VestIMG_5140.JPGA shirt dress and vest is one of my favorite winter combinations. I’m so glad to have found this plaid dress (I have the same one in chambray material). It’s perfect for a day of hanging out with your family.

Dress: J. Crew Mercantile
Vest: Banana Republic (old)
Booties: Nordstrom Rack (Cole Hann)

How do you wear your flannel?

Special shoutout to my mom and dad for taking such great pictures! Y’all are the best!

My Style: Game Day

Happy Homecoming Week to my fellow Horned Frog fans! As you can probably tell via social media, TCU football is one of my favorite things about the fall. I love the excitement of the game, the tailgating with my friends and the rivalries among teams. But every Friday night/Saturday morning, I panic about what to wear. You see, for most women in the south, game day is not about throwing on your favorite TCU shirt and a pair of jeans. Instead game day is a bit of a fashion show that happens to only feature outfits in purple, black and white. So every week I search my closet for something to wear that is tailgate-appropriate, stylish and breezy (it’s still in the 90s here in Texas).

With all that said, this week I thought I would share some game day outfit inspiration (I know I always need it)! Even if you didn’t go to TCU, I hope you will see that each outfit can be easily translated into your particular school’s colors. So let’s get this fashion show started:

Outfit #1: The Romper

Rompers are fun because they are the epitome of breezy, especially this one. And a black and white romper is ideal because you can easily find a bandeau and/or jewelry in your school’s colors to be “game day-appropriate.” The one romper downfall: using the restroom, especially while tailgating (but you’ll figure it out).

The Deets: romper, tassel necklace

Outfit #2: The Scarf

frog_fingersscarf_picOwning a scarf in your school’s colors is crucial for football season. It gives you options and the ability to easily pull together multiple outfits throughout the season. A scarf can be paired with so many things, and if you get one in your school’s colors, you only need to figure out the neutrals to pair it with.

The Deets: dress, scarf (no longer available, but it is from here), earrings

Outfit #3: The Jeans

I got these jeans for Christmas (thanks Santa!) a couple years ago and have been obsessed with them ever since. These purple jeans are one of my staples throughout the season because then I only have to find a black/white top to pair them with. This is definitely my go-to look for football games! And don’t be surprised if you see this top all over my Instagram feed. I LOVE IT!

The Deets: jeans (sadly not available anymore), top, earrings

Last, but not least: The “Kari Face” (LOL)

mad_kari

My friends make fun of me for having a “face” when I’m mad. Oops! Hopefully no “Kari Faces” at the game this weekend! Go Frogs!!

Michael & Cydnee: THANK YOU! Y’all made this day so fun, and it wouldn’t have run as smoothly as it did without either of you! Y’all are the best!

Wish List: Sequins, Leather & Lace

Confession: I love getting dressed up. And the holidays are the perfect excuse for me to put on my favorite sparkly dress or whip out that fun leather skirt I’ve been dying to wear. No one even questions why I’m so dressed up at the bar, and I love it! I guess they assume I just went to a fancy holiday party. Little do they know…

Here are some of my favorite sequin, leather and lace pieces for your Christmas party, New Year’s Eve celebration or just a night out on the town:
